With the advent of print media and leading into the age of television, marketing has been a key means of funding the content. In 2014, 200 advertisers in the US spent a record $137.8 billion on telling people what they can buy. And one of the means they use to grab our attention is through tantalizing us through sexual images – the lust of the flesh.

Advertisers are only using the same tool that Satan uses to help people disavow God and His will for us. Pastor John Samuel Barnett teaches on why this area of attack is so effective.

Sun Tzu wrote “The Art of War” as a manual for knowing what to do in battles during times of war. The Apostle Paul described our lives as Christians as being on a spiritual battlefield against an enemy that wants to seek us out, kill us, and ultimately destroy us.

Sun Tzu wrote in his manual, “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Today, Pastor John Samuel Barnett allows us to know both ourselves and our enemy as we learn to identify the areas of attack Satan seeks out in us with the most ease.

This week, Pastor John Samuel Barnett unpacked some of the attributes of God and the devil to show us how we can overcome temptations. A question that we might have is to wonder what further powers does Satan have. For example, can Satan read our thoughts? Coincidentally, that’s the topic of this week’s Q&A!

Just like looking at God’s attributes should help us in overcoming temptations, we can also look in His Word and see the limitations he puts on our adversary, the devil. The devil is a created being. The devil in not God. The devil is limited. The devil only has direct influence over what God, in His perfect plan, wills him to have. When we face temptations, we can have confidence, from God’s Word, that the devil can only persuade he cannot push us into sin.

Pastor John Samuel Barnett draws on the facts of God’s characteristics to show us that we can have confidence that when we face temptations that God will always be there for us. The characteristic of God being ever present, in conjunction with all His other attributes working in perfect harmony, should give us the biggest confidence to be able to face temptations. It should also be the greatest tool and comfort when we are in the midst of temptations.

Last week we looked at Satan’s playbook to turn us against God. Today, John Samuel Barnett open’s up God’s playbook to show us what we should do when we face temptations and also saying, “The devil made me do it” doesn’t absolve us. However, there is hope.

This week, Pastor John Samuel Barnett talked about the fact that Satan’s foundational attack is to attack the Word of God and our reliance on it. He also spoke on the sufficiency of Scripture and what that means.

But you might know of other denominations or other teachings that talk about the continued revelation of God. Are those revelations real? Do they hold the same status as what we read in Scripture? That’s the topic of this week’s Q&A.

Have a happy new year and we’ll see you in 2017.

Pastor John Samuel Barnett shows us that Satan’s final attack on us is to attack God’s absolute authority and plan for us. We can see that in our world today, in politics, in personal relationships, is false religions, or bad religious thoughts that there is a rebellion against God’s supreme authority over His creation. Our desire should be to recognize God’s supremacy and strive to carry out HIs plan for us.

Pastor John Samuel Barnett shows that Satan’s next step in trying to destroy us is to get us to doubt that God is perfectly good. He does this by building on the first step of continuing to keep us from God’s Word so that God, through the Holy Spirit, can’t speak to us and show us that God isn’t just good but that He is the standard of goodness. We only know what is good because God is the standard bearer of the concept.https://youtu.be/TP9zkJ6ldcc(From 2016JAN10 – SWS-08 – Temptations, God’s Faithfulness, & Satan’s Ancient Playbook)
