One of the amazing things about salvation is that it divorces us from our abusive father, the Devil and we become the adopted sons and daughters of the true and living God. But as Pastor John Samuel Barnett teaches, bitterness opens us up to that old relationship to our old father and closes us off from our new Father.https://youtu.be/p7sd3A4r-0w(From 2015DEC13 – SWS-05 – How Are You Dressed Spiritually – Clothed With Christ’s Compassion & Rid Of Any Bitterness)

What is rat poison? A quick looks at the ingredients tend to list the number a 99% food and only 1% is actual position. So while most of what the rat eats is good and healthy and nutritiousness it is that little bit of poison mixed in that destroys it.

Bitterness is that 1% of poison in our actions that destroys our lives. Pastor John Samuel Barnett shows why the Christian should avoid this type of poison.

When elephants are trained to assist humans in places like Africa and Asia they are best taught from their earliest age. At that time, a rope is tied around their trunks and the rope is attached to a grounded pole. No matter how much that elephant tugs, he cannot break free. Over the years the rope and post gets smaller and smaller. The elephant doesn’t attempt to break free because it remembers the times in the past where it was a failure to even try.

So to is what happens to our emotions with bitterness – they are imprisoned. Pastor John Samuel Barnett covers that imprisoning today.

This week’s Q&A with Pastor John Samuel Barnett might have been a question when it concerns our topic of bitterness for this week.

We have the responsibility to put off bitterness and put on Christ. But where does Satan factor into this? Can Satan implant evil thoughts and read our minds. Is he able to instill bitterness in our minds so they we can’t help it?

A job a young person can have in the farmland of America is detasseling corn. Waking up early in the morning in the wet and cold and staying through to the hot noon sun. Those who have experienced it know that by the end of the day you are both cold and wet and dirty and dry. The best feeling in the world is getting out of the dirty, crusted clothes and into a clean shirt, warm pants, and dry socks.

Salvation is like that invigorating change from the old to the new. And as Pastor John Samuel Barnett explains, the life of the Christian is characterized by the constraint stripping of the old behaviors like bitterness and changing into the life and response of Jesus Christ.

If you’ve listened to Pastor John Samuel Barnett for long you’ve heard him explain the Jurassic Park verse. 1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”

The Jurassic Park aspect comes when the T-Rex is chasing the Jeep and the driver is able to go faster and provides the characters a way of escape from the creature that would tear them apart. The sin of bitterness is like that T-Rex looking to overtake and devour and destroy. As believers, we have the ability to resist temptation and sin. We should not want to be overtaken and eaten. We should want to flee and be free.
