This week, we began looking at specific actions to take when discipling others. We might be limited in thinking that the “others” might refer to people younger than us or, at least, those younger spiritually. But what about the elderly? How can we go about encouraging them? Pastor John Samuel Barnett covers that in this week’s Q&A short clip.

(2013OCT06 – Q&A-46)
Continuing on what discipleship looks like, Pastor John Samuel Barnett covers the need for mature believers to come alongside their charges and encourage them in how to deal with temptation and what to look for and how to flee from it. We should all desire to find it increasingly easier to turn away from the devil and turn to our loving Lord and God.

If you can remember back to your time in school you might have heard about an experiment known as Pavlov’s dog. The experiment consisted, for the most part, teaching a dog to associate the ringing of a bell with the presentation of food. This was done over and over again. Bell would ring, the dog could come and show signs of hunger, and he’d be fed food. Bell, food. Bell, food. Bell, food. Finally, at the end, Pavlov would ring the bell without food or not during feeding times and the dog would exhibit signs of hunger. This became known as classical conditioning.

Not to take the example to the full extreme, but our discipleship relationship should be like that of Pavlov and his dog when it comes to The Bible and daily situations. We should disciple in such a way that anytime a daily situation occurs, the other person should salivate to turn to God’s Word of guidance and sustainability. All Christians should feed on God’s Word so that we develop a habit of responding.

Being Word fed is the topic Pastor John Samuel Barnett covers today concerning discipleship.

Continuing Pastor John Samuel Barnett‘s discipleship message, the first thing we should always do when discipling someone is a) make sure we are saved from our sins and b) make sure the other person is saved from their sins.

The only way we are able to please God is if we have His Spirit living in us by accepting His Son, Jesus’, sacrifice for our sins on the cross. To understand that for ourselves should be obvious why that is important. Why we should make sure that is the case for our discipleship partner is also important. Maybe they only think they’re a Christian because their parents were. Maybe they only had an emotional response one time twenty years ago but their lives do not show evidence of living as a new creation. Maybe they only view the church and your meeting with them as social, self-help meet ups. If we charge ahead without confirming people on both sides of the table have a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, then all proceeding steps would be like continuing to walk at a brick wall and not realize it.

John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.””

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…”

The Great Commission (above) is not a command to just share the Gospel message with people but a call to make disciples once God saves those who call on His Name.

Pastor John Samuel Barnett shows that this discipleship focus is both biblical and basic. We are all commanded to go and make disciples. And we join the Apostles, the early church, the early church fathers, and millions of other faithful followers of Jesus Christ who throughout the ages took up the charge to be disciple makers.

This week as we looked at consecrating our entire lives to God, we should understand that how we live would and should change – both inwardly and outwardly. Others should be able to see our changed lives and may ask us what happened. It is our Christian duty to carry out the Lord’s wishes in the Great Commission – go tell the world and make disciples.

Today, Pastor John Samuel Barnett shows us how the Great Commission relates to us today.

(2012MAY27 – Q&A-12)

Everyone is looking for purpose. What is the purpose of life? What is my calling in life? Should I do A or B? God’s Word has the answers!

Continuing on looking at committing and and concentrating our entire lives to God, Pastor John Samuel Barnett expounds on Romans 12:2 for the call to renew our minds. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24). To what extent are we to come after Christ? To what extent are we to deny ourselves? To what extent are we to take up our cross? To what extent are we to follow Him?

Pastor John Samuel Barnett encourages us to answer 100% to those questions as we are called to commit our entire lives to God.

Along with our outlook, God also calls us to consecrate our bodies and our entire life to Him. Join Pastor John Samuel Barnett as he shows us that God calls us to offer our lives as a living sacrifice – holy and acceptable to our Lord.

Pastor John Samuel Barnett continues his message on the factors involved in God provided salvation. When saved, we are called to set apart ourselves for God’s special purpose and work. We are called to set apart our outlook on life. No longer do we look inward towards ourselves and our false idols. We are to unfold and look up to God to guide us where He wants us to go.
