Married men, have you ever been in the situation where you are shopping with your wife and you get that dreaded question asked, “Will you hold my purse?” What’s the basis for her asking that of you? It’s that she trusts you and relies on you to keep it safe. How would you feel if your wife told you that she loves you but can’t depend on you?

What if your husband, wives, proclaimed his love for you but only came home once a week from work and would confide in you? What if your little children wouldn’t eat what you prepared because they’re not entirely sure there’s not poison in the food?

What happens when we give God just one hour or a couple minutes a day and still call Him “Lord”? Today, Pastor John Samuel Barnett, shows us from Scripture that God wants us to daily depend on Him. When we call Him “Lord” which should really mean it and understand the implications of who God is.

Some people compare the butchery of ISIS to some of the Old Testament accounts of Israel fighting for God. Is that accurate, fair, or even comparable? Here is that question worked out from the Bible with even the history of Islam and Judaism all explained over to give perspective. This is a vital insight for thinking Christians.
One of the sad aspects of some American professed Christians is the forsaking of the meeting together in corporate worship. The claim is along the lines of not needing to go to a building to worship God. Or it may be the claim that organized religion just isn’t for them. Or the person says they’ve been hurt by the church before.

However, the writer of Hebrews offers this charge in 10:23-25 (with special focus on v.25) “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

Along with this decree, Pastor John Samuel Barnett instructs us from God’s Word that He desires to lead us in gathered worship. The fact of the Church, that is Christ’s Body, can never be separated from the Head of Jesus Christ. And a proper understanding of the New Testament writing testifies to this truth.

We continue with Pastor John Samuel Barnett as we learn more reasons why Christians should desire for God to guide them.

One of the most amazing things about God is that, yes, He’s supremely sovereign; yes, He is the creator of all things; yes, He causes nations to rise and rulers to fall; yes, He holds all things together.

The amazing thing, as Pastor John Samuel Barnett points out, is that God wants us to rely on Him and desire that He guide us. Which He does do so!

When those last moments of life come, and you are aware that death is close–what will you be holding on to, tightly? Here on King Herod’s monumental tomb we ponder that thought as believers.

This week we looked at reasons we needed to surrender to the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. We also looked at the consequences of not doing so. One of the ways we surrender to God is by knowing His Will and that is through His Word. As Christians we hear God’s voice through His Word and know that it is profitable for all sorts of things.

But what is the main purpose of The Bible? Is it more than just a rule book or a collection of stories? Pastor John Samuel Barnett brings us the answer in this week’s Q&A.

(2014FEB02 – Q&A-55)
Today, Pastor John Samuel Barnett warns about things that may cause us to drift away from seeking God first.
We can probably think of big examples that would do this. We can think of jobs that require working 14 hour days/7 days a week so that we focus only of success and money. We can think of the enticements of red light districts that would cause lust and compromise. It’s easier to see those as causing a rushing away from God and we might be more prone to steer clear of them.
But have you ever been on a slow moving river. You could lean back and take a five minute nap or take a minute to get some sun. When you sit back up, you may have juked over to a different branch of the river you didn’t want to go or you’re in some place unfamiliar. There are sins that could cause the slow drift away from God. What started off with a nice smile and some small talk with a coworker could lead down the path of an affair, even if it’s only in the mind. Enjoying a particular good tasting alcoholic drink where you consistently keep having one more each time could lead to drunkenness. Being too busy on just the weekends to read God’s Word and pray could lead to being too busy when the school year starts and then going to God becomes a rare event.
The dift of a fast moving rapid is easier to see than the slow drift down the lazy river. Let us continually seek God at all times so that our boat is pointed upstream and we’re paddling against the flow.

Continuing from yesterday, Pastor John Samuel Barnett continues the list of things we should surrender to God such as our days, emotions, time, or mind.

Once again, the consequences for refusing to allow the Lord to control those leads to internal, spiritual, and daily living conflict.

Whether we like it or not, we live in a world controlled by God. As such, there is an objective set of rules we should conform ourselves too. Failing to do so results in consequences that robs Christians from deeper fellowship with God, among other things.

Pastor John Samuel Barnett gives consequences from God’s Word about not surrendering our treasures, body, motives, and thoughts.

When we surrenders those things before God, we come to realize how little we are giving up and how much we are gaining.
